Business History
1986 - The beginning
We started life in 1986 as Mortgage Trust Limited, a specialist mortgage lender owned by a consortium of Scandinavian banks. At that stage the company was a pioneer in capped and fixed rate mortgages for the self-employed.
1995 - We became part of First National Building Society
Mortgage Trust was bought in 1995 by First National Building Society, which at the time was the largest and longest established building society in Ireland. In March 1997 we launched the first ever Current Account Mortgage in the United Kingdom.
1998 - The birth of First Active Financial plc
When First National Building Society de-mutualised in October 1998, they became First Active plc, and Mortgage Trust Limited changed its name to First Active Financial plc.
2001 - Britannic Money plc is launched
On 30th September 2000, Britannic Group plc took a 60 percent stake in First Active Financial plc, with First Active plc retaining 40 percent. In February 2001, First Active Financial plc renamed to Britannic Money plc, its aim to provide customers with personalised financial management services, based on the Current Account Mortgage. In December 2002 Britannic Group plc purchased the remaining 40 percent share from First Active plc.
June 2003
The Paragon Group of Companies plc acquired the entire share capital of Britannic Money from Britannic Group.
Sept 2003 - Britannic Money is re-branded to Mortgage Trust
The aim of Mortgage Trust is to provide effective buy-to-let solutions for today’s buy-to-let investors.
